Manny Machado was born Manuel Arturo Machado on July 6, 1992 in Hialeah, Florida, USA. He has roots in the Dominican Republic. He was raised by his mother, Rosa Machado. Growing up, his father did not play a significant role in his life. However, he was privileged to have his relatives, including his uncle Geovanny Brito and grandfather Francisco Nunez, assist him in his upbringing. It was his uncle in particular who encouraged him to pursue his baseball dreams (which he had had since childhood). Geovanny usually took Manny to watch games. While his mother provided for his needs, his uncle taught him many things. His grandfather Francisco (who passed away in 1999) was also of immense support.
Machado attended Brito High School in Miami, Florida. He was an active baseball player during Manny’s time at Brito, and his excellence caught the attention of the MLB, who accepted him to pursue a professional career in the sport.

Manny Machado started his professional career in 2012 when he was selected third overall in the MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles. That same year he won his first Gold Glove Award. On August 9, the Orioles promoted him to the major leagues from the Double-A-Bowie Baysox. Before the end of the year he was scoring 24 runs and amassing 50 hits.
In 2013, Machado led some major leagues with 25 doubles. After a severe blow on September 23, he sustained an injury to his left knee. This led him to decide to have surgery on his left knee to reduce the chances of future dislocations. Machado fully recovered from his knee surgery and came back the following year.
On May 1, he played a doubleheader sweep against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Machado injured his right knee again while preparing for a home game against the New York Yankees. The injury was initially described as a sprain, but after a few days, the Baltimore Orioles announced that Machado would be withdrawing from the season to undergo another surgery on his right knee. By June 2015, however, Manny had already recovered and started his 2015 season healthy.Manny Machado has been very successful in his career which has brought him many awards and nominations. Baltimore Orioles sold him to the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018. He scored his 1,000th goal in his first game with the Dodgers (against the Milwaukee Brewers).
In 2019, on February 21st exactly, Manny Machado signed a $300 million contract with the San Diego Padres. The contract initially resulted in the largest free agent deal in US sports records. However, just two weeks later after the Philadelphia Phillies signed Bryce Harper to a 13-year, $330 million contract, the deal was finalized.
